In this project based on a real-world scenario, I acted as a Cloud Architect and created an executive presentation of infrastructure costs for a SAP migration project from On-Premises to AWS.

SAP workloads were running in a corporate Data Center with the environment divided into Production, Quality Assurance — QA and Development/Test layers.

My mission was to estimate the costs of migration to AWS, considering that this infrastructure will be running on AWS for at least the next 3 years.

Thanks to AWS calculator, a variety of scenarios, resources and parameters can be used as an input to give an estimated value for companies that want to migrate their services from on-premises to public cloud no matter what is the infrastructure. In this Real world scenario hand-on project, we had to move application servers in production and also in testing center, together with database servers. For this, I had to take into consideration a given number of EC2 instances as they are going to host the application servers, with a number of TBytes dedicated for block and NFS storage. Load balancing was also estimated, since we are considering to use 3 Load balancers for at least 2GB per second for each.

Additionally, RDS Oracle database servers migration costs was also covered with a given number of vCPU, RAM and storage in TB.

On the other hand, the AWS support was also included in the estimation with an availability of 24/7 and with estimated response time less than 15 minutes especially for production environments.

Overall, the estimated costs for such architecture was 22% less than implementing the same on-premises. As a result, it turns out that migrating towards the public cloud not only reducing efforts to maintain and managing on-premises data centers but also reducing implementation costs.
